Why not combine travel with learning or acquring new skills this summer? There are so many options it is hard to condense it down to a few short sentences – it seems any skill is possible to learn whilst also relaxing on holiday so you can choose between a short UK break or longer worldwide option. You could be training to be a zoo keeper, becoming an expert photographer, or sketching some stunning landscapes while the sun sets...Employers appreciate that not everyone can afford a gap year or summer project abroad but they are not looking at the destination or duration of the trip – employers want to see people who are motivated and commited to improving their personal and professional skills as that is something they will look for in their workforce.
Since the scope of learning holiday is so vast we’d love to learn more about your experience. Share your story here! Each month we choose a Blog of the Month and the lucky author bags themselves £50 worth of travel vouchers.

Featured summer experience...Turning a hobby into cash
How a cake decorating course paid for itself
“I have always loved baking and as a child I would spend hours tugging at my mother’s apron begging her to let me stir the cake mix or arrange the jelly diamonds on top of the fairy cakes. I was, and still am, renowned for making a complete mess and having a kitchen that was splattered with food colouring stains. Last summer I was stuck for ideas for how I could earn money as I really wanted to do something that was meaningful but couldn’t afford to volunteer or travel. I left it too late to apply for an internship and was really stuck. After discussing my options with someone from makemysummer.com I came up with a cunning plan...I had always loved baking and decorating cakes so it seemed logical to pursue my hobby and try to earn some money from it. I signed up to a course with needacake.co.uk and a few weeks later I was able to start creating and selling my own cupcakes. I took some time to think about branding and packaging and came up with a signature design. I now continue with my ‘Cakes to Say...’ line as a hobby that pays all year round and its growing in popularity as my friends and family spread the word. I would recommend going on a course that allows you to improve your skills in your hobby as you;ll never get bored and who knows, you could land a career out of it that will never feel like work. If you want to find out more or enquire about my cakes, please email on cakestosay@yahoo.co.uk”
